Dear Private Eye Reader

Thank you for visiting our site.  We hope that what you read here will persuade you to donate to our crowdfunder: If so, please click here:

We have to raise £104,000 from donations for the Heritage Lottery to contribute £4.19 million towards the restoration of the UK’s only Grade II* lido.  We have raised £60,000 so only another £40,000 to go. Please help us!

Saltdean Lido is no ordinary outside pool:

“Probably the most architecturally significant open-air pool in the country” - 20th Century Society

“One of the seven wonders of the English Seaside” - Historical England

Local volunteers have been campaigning and fundraising for eight years to Save Saltdean Lido.

Opening the new pools last summer was phase one of our project.

Phase two is the restoration of the building. The Lottery has set aside £4.19 million towards this. However, it has said that lido and heritage lovers need to contribute too.

And so we now have to raise £104,000 (£40,000 now!) by 1 June which is when the lottery committee next meets.

If we don’t reach this target then the lottery money will go away forever and we won’t be able to proceed with phase two. This would be a real blow and would see the building boarded up and continue to be an eyesore that blights rather than benefits our community. The library and community centre housed within the building will both close.

The future of the pools will also be in doubt as they cannot survive without revenue from a heritage café, rooms for hire and events in a revamped building.

We can do it if we all contribute. Please, please help us restore the lido building to its former glory. Come on we can do it!
