Restoring Saltdean Lido for future generations
Saltdean Lido is one of the finest remaining examples of modernist lidos in the UK. It has been saved by local residents who have set up the CIC and successfully secured a 60-year lease from Brighton & Hove City Council (the freeholders) to operate the lido site.
With the pools re-opened in June 2017, phase 1 of our project is almost complete. We successfully welcomed over 40,000 visitors last year and picked up two Brighton & Hove Business Awards - Best New Kid on the Block & Best Hospitality Leisure & Tourism.
Phase 2 is the renovation of the building.
We are working with the Heritage Lottery Fund (National Lottery) to secure £4.2 million whilst Brighton & Hove Council has pledged £700,000.
We reached our crowd-funding target £100,000 earlier this year!
A huge, huge thank you to everyone who took part in fundraising events, donated or helped us hit this target by volunteering at events.
Following this huge generosity of the local community, businesses and countless others, we were able to secure a conditional grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for just over half of the amount required to restore and develop the building.
We are working with the council to meet the HLF’s conditions and obtain ‘permission to start’ status, which we hope will be within the next few months.
We’ll keep you informed and post updates to the website whenever we have news.
We hope to be celebrating the next phase in the life of Saltdean Lido with you soon.
